Three things to notice
Pythagoras is for right triangles
The square of the hypotenuse equals the sum of the squares of the other two sides.
SOH-CAH-TOA selects a ratio
Relative to the chosen angle: sine uses opposite/hypotenuse, cosine adjacent/hypotenuse and tangent opposite/adjacent.
Do not memorise the words alone. The worked example shows how to choose and apply the idea.
