Reason about shape, space and direction

Apply angle, circle, transformation and trigonometric relationships with clear justification.

1 / 4

Learn the idea

Three things to notice

01

Draw before you calculate

A labelled diagram exposes right angles, known sides and which relationship applies.

02

Pythagoras is for right triangles

The square of the hypotenuse equals the sum of the squares of the other two sides.

03

SOH-CAH-TOA selects a ratio

Relative to the chosen angle: sine uses opposite/hypotenuse, cosine adjacent/hypotenuse and tangent opposite/adjacent.

Do not memorise the words alone. The worked example shows how to choose and apply the idea.
